Cookbooks

I can't recommend using cookbooks enough.  The photos alone are worth it.  I own many and use them constantly.
You can peruse the Table of Contents for each of the 'Specific Carbohydrate Diet' cookbooks on the SCDKitchen.com cookbook page.

Breaking the Vicious Cycle (BTVC),  Gut And Psychology Syndrome and Gaps Guide all have fantastic recipes. These books are half cookbook, half diet explanation but are not listed below.  My favorite muffin and bread recipe are in BTVC- don't forget about these great books as cookbooks.

BTVC was one of the first places to find nut flour recipes substituting for grain flour in baking and cooking.  Elaine credits traditional Austrian recipes as the inspiration.  Now it's huge in Paleo Diets and low carb cooking as well (see below).

SIBO Summer Cookbook, SIBO Family Favourites Cookbook & SIBO Christmas eCookbook
by Rebecca Coomes, SIBO coach and host of the Healthy Gut Podcast

After being diagnosed with SIBO in early 2015, Rebecca was surprised to find there were limited cookbooks available to those eating a SIBO diet.  Following the SIBO Bi-Phasic Diet Protocol, created by Australia's leading SIBO Specialist, Dr. Nirala Jacobi ND, and based on Dr. Siebecker's SIBO Specific Food Guide, Rebecca has now developed multiple cookbooks, and a SIBO Meal Plan guide.

All recipes are 100% gluten-free, corn-free and soy-free.  The majority are dairy-free (with dairy alternatives listed), low FODMAP, low sugar, low carbohydrate and use minimal grains.

The SIBO Summer Cookbook is full of recipes that are perfect for the warmer summer months. Rebecca covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, sides and accompaniments, condiments and dressings, snacks, fats and oils.

The SIBO Family Favourites Cookbook features a range of recipes the whole family will love. She has taken American, Australian and Asian classics such as Buffalo Wings with a Ranch Dressing, Chicken Parmigiana and Singapore Style Chili Prawns and made them SIBO-friendly. She also lists a delicious array of desserts and drinks.

The SIBO Christmas eCookbook is the perfect accompaniment to your Thanksgiving and Christmas cooking. Rebecca features a range of appetizers, side dishes, desserts and sweet treats that will mean you don't feel deprived over the festive season. Paleo Diets/Cookbooks

Paleo diets are very similar, but not exactly the same as SIBO diets like SCD and Gaps diet.  They are not formulated for SIBO, and therefore some differences may occur.  For example some paleo diets use commercial yogurt but SIBO diets use only homemade 24-hour yogurt or commercial lactose free yogurt.

Note:  Only use Paleo cookbooks/websites when familiar with the parameters of SCD/Gaps or the SIBO diet you're using, so that you can identify and substitute ingredients not recommended for SIBO.

The Primal Blueprint Cookbook by Mark Sisson

Elana's Cookbooks

My personal favorite.  Like Paleo cookbooks/websites, these recipes include ingredients off the SIBO diets of SCD/Gaps & which may trigger symptoms in some.  The predominant differences are the use of arrowroot flour, a starch (coconut flour may be substituted), agave (clover honey may be substituted) and chocolate (which is not allowed on SCD/Gaps but many with SIBO tolerate).

Note:  Only use Elana's cookbooks/website when familiar with the parameters of SCD/Gaps or the diet you're using, so that you can identify and substitute ingredients not recommended for SIBO.

The Gluten-Free Almond Flour Cookbook
by Elana Amsterdam

"The prevalence of celiac disease and gluten sensitivity among millions of adults and children has created the need for gluten-free recipes that are as nutritious and tasty as their traditional counterparts.  Elana Amsterdam offers 99 family friendly classics."

Elana Amsterdam is a popular food blogger, creator of the free recipe site Elana'sPantry.com, who used the SCD to help her and her son after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease.
